Calm Teacher,
Cool Parent…
Calm Teacher, Cool Parent… is a feasibility study to enable the creation of a programme that has the intention of reducing SAD amongst teachers, school support staff, parents and children.
This initial study involves training a population of adults who have responsibilities to children (such as teachers, school staff and parents) in an emotional and endocrine-monitoring programme designed to decrease the intensity and frequency of occurrences of stress, anxiety and depression within these adults.
The aim of the study is to assess the direct benefit to the participating adults and, also, the consequential benefit to the children in their lives, as well as to other family members and colleagues.
A secondary aim is to evaluate whether increasing awareness of the indicators for childhood ‘SAD’, amongst the participating adults, will support the creation of an emotional and endocrine-monitoring programme for children.
Calm Teacher, Cool Parent… is a precursor to our 8ii11 study, which will assess the elements of a preventative programme that we intend to design specifically for children aged 8 to 11 in order to support their current and future wellbeing.
This, in itself, will act as a precursor to our I Can Change My Moods programme, which will be designed to decrease the occurrence and severity of self-harming, suicidal thoughts and intentions, and other emotional challenges amongst teenagers.
